MODEL SELECTION

The Five Selection Questions

Every pressure sensor specification starts with the same five questions. Answer them and you are 90% of the way to the right model. Send the answers to our export team and we confirm the configuration — and the price — within 24 hours.

What exactly do you measure?

Gauge pressure to atmosphere, absolute pressure, sealed gauge, or differential pressure between two points? Differential applications need a dedicated differential pressure transducer, not two gauges subtracted.

What is the operating pressure range?

Share the normal operating pressure and the maximum possible pressure. We select a range 1.2 to 1.5 times the maximum operating pressure so the sensor stays in its accurate band and survives surges.

Which output and power supply?

4-20mA two-wire is the industrial default — long cable runs, noise immunity and PLC compatibility. 0-10V for short runs, RS485 for digital networks, HART on the PT200 series for configuration and diagnostics.

What media and environment?

The wetted material must tolerate the media — 304 or 316L stainless steel, FKM seals, or a PT400 flush diaphragm for viscous or clogging fluids. Ambient temperature, humidity and IP rating follow the environment.

How is it mounted?

Thread size (G1/4, G1/2, 1/4 NPT, M20x1.5), male or female port, flush diaphragm for hygienic processes, and cable length or connector type. Getting this right avoids adapters and leaks on site.

INSTALLATION

Install It Right the First Time

  • Mounting position: keep the diaphragm vertical in liquid service to avoid trapped air pockets, and horizontal in gas service so condensate drains away.
  • Thread sealing: use PTFE tape or a sealing washer on the thread — never sealing paste on the diaphragm side, and never over-torque (typical G1/4 torque is 20-30 N·m).
  • Cable routing: shielded twisted pair, shield grounded at one end, signal cable separated from power and VFD cables by at least 30 cm.
  • Protection: match the IP rating to the environment — IP67 for washdown and outdoor masts, IP65 for dry panels.

CALIBRATION

Calibration & Verification

  • Every unit ships calibrated: 100% pressure calibration with a test certificate included in the shipment.
  • Field verification: compare the 4-20mA output against a calibrated reference gauge at zero, 50% and 100% of range — drift beyond 0.5%FS signals a re-calibration.
  • Zero and span: the PT200 series with HART supports digital zero and span configuration; analog units adjust via the trim potentiometers inside the housing.
  • Intervals: 12 months general, 6 months critical or hygienic. Temperature effects are specified on every datasheet for your uncertainty budget.

Which accuracy do I need — 0.5%FS or 0.1%FS?

0.5%FS (PT100) covers most monitoring and control loops. Choose 0.25%FS for tighter control, and the PT200 at 0.1%FS with HART when you need the best repeatability, custody-level measurement or digital diagnostics.

How often should sensors be calibrated?

Typical intervals are 12 months for general industrial service and 6 months for critical loops or hygienic applications. Field verification with a reference gauge can extend intervals if drift stays within tolerance.

Can you help if our existing sensor keeps failing?
